Chipping Program

Evergreen Fire Rescue Chipping Program

You can protect your home from wildfire with help from the Evergreen Fire Rescue Chipping Program.  We are dedicated to helping residents and property owners create defensible space by providing chipping of branches, logs, and small trees.
If you clear woody vegetation from around your home and stack it in a slash pile, we will chip it for you.

The charge for chipping is $50.00 per household, and allows a total of 5 piles stacked neatly and separated, with dimensions of 5' wide x 5' deep x 5' tall. Full guidelines are posted below. If you have more than five piles you can sign up multiple times.

You can also have the chips hauled off your property for disposal.
The charge for chipping 5 piles of slash and hauling off your property is $75.00.

Chipping Guidelines

Accepted materials include trees, logs, and branches up to 10 inches in diameter, free of nails, wire, dirt, and rocks.
The following restrictions apply:
  • No construction or building materials, treated lumber, fence posts, or signs.
  • No shrubs, root wads, stumps, dirt, or rocks. These items clog and damage chipping equipment.
  • No grass clippings, trash, weeds, bags of leaves, raked yard waste, or rotten wood from the ground will be accepted.
  • Tips will not be accepted but donations to Evergreen Fire/Rescue are welcomed.
Pile Guidelines (See Image Below for Example Piles)
  • Piles must be stacked by 8 a.m. on the selected chipping day. Chipping will take place throughout the summer, as fire activity permits . Improperly stacked piles, and any piles stacked after 8 a.m, may not be identified or collected.
  • Stack piles neatly (no bags or ropes/ties), with the large cut ends of branches facing the road.
  • Place piles within 5 feet of the roadway, but not touching the road or down in drainage ditches.
  • Maximum pile size is 5 'x 5' x 5'. You can submit multiple payments for multiple sets of 5 piles. We will chip all piles available when we come by your address.
  • After crews have removed your piles, clear away any remaining branches, needles, and debris leftover.
  • Do not combine piles with neighbors' piles or place piles in other neighborhoods.
  • No piles that have been created by any machinery will be chipped.
Have your piles ready by the date you select in your application, and we will come chip them within 3 weeks of this date.

Online Application Form

We have closed applications for the 2020 season. We are working diligently to complete all of the addresses that have signed up this summer. We will re-open the applications in the Spring of 2021. Thank you very much for your support of this program.
